Notify Council of your concerns now! Keep Having your say about your community.
Last year a petition was tabled to Council with 832 signatures requesting that Johnson Road be retained as valuable Open Space. Unfortunately this was counted as a single objection.
We need the community to continue sending their concerns to Council and councillors so that this time they cannot say we have not let them know our views.
We have a summary of our concerns with the proposal HERE. Please feel free to use these in your responses.
Send your emails to hsc@hornsby.nsw.gov.au expressing your concerns. Please BCC the letter to each of the councillors and to galstonareara@gmail.com so that we can keep track of the people getting involved.

Here some some points that you may wish to discuss in your objection email:
The site is Operational Land. Council can sell it. Once rezoned that will be an option. If sold there is nothing to stop it being totally developed for major industrial purposes.
The walking space proposed in the proposal is no substitute for the valuable Open Space in the park. Children will lose their ability for safe, independent play here.
There is no town sewerage on the site. Therefore, sewerage will have to be removed by pump out – the smell and noise could cause problems.
The local road infrastructure will not be able to accommodate the additional traffic demand.
The Feasibility Study has not been released to the community – we question the economic advantages that the reports seem to focus on – many of these units are likely to remain vacant.
There should be Open Space within 400m of every home and many homes in the vicinity will no longer meet this requirement if this proposal progresses (Social & Community Needs Assessment report).
There is no comparison between Dural Industrial area and this site in Galston – they are not similar and no comparison can be applied.
Noise levels created and light pollution by Industrial use 24/7. How will compliance problems be managed by Council?
The current plan provides 68 onsite car parking for the industrial units. The proposal says that 130 jobs will be created. Employees will have to travel to work by car because of the poor public transport that services our area. Where will the additional cars park? Obviously on Johnson and Salloway Roads.
The site has Sydney Turpentine-Ironbark Forest ‘critically endangered ecological community’. An industrial site will result in these trees being destroyed resulting in loss of wildlife.
Residents will lose the park they have used for the past 15 years.
The rural character of Galston will be negatively impacted.
The rural lands are protected under the North District Plan to future proof our communities against climate change and increased density.
Pollution from this site will flow into the Hawkesbury-Nepean catchment and sub-catchment areas and could impact surrounding waterways, home to endangered platypus.
Rezoning will devalue Galston properties. Who wants to live in an industrial area? Keep Galston Beautiful.
As a compromise remove 3 Johnson Road from the proposal and rezone 1 Johnson Road only. In this way we can retain the park and save the trees.
